Rokhl Kafrissen is the product of two schools named for Jewish Supreme Court justices. After many years toiling in the world of corporate litigation, today she works as a journalist and playwright in New York City. She’s been writing about modern Yiddish culture since 2005, when her ‘Rootless Cosmopolitan’ column began in Jewish Currents. Her ‘Rokhl’s Golden City’ column began appearing in Tabletin 2017, the only regular feature in the world dedicated to new Yiddish culture in all its iterations. Her op-eds regularly appear in newspapers all over the world. Her first play was a Yiddish-English gangster ghost romance called A Brokhe.  She is a 2019-2020 14thStreet Y LABA fellow, for which she is writing a new play about the culture clash between the worlds of Yiddish theater and modern academia.
